Developing Competitive Play

The Girls Middle School division builds upon elementary skills and introduces more competitive play. Players refine their techniques and develop a deeper understanding of game strategy and positioning.

What Parents Should Expect

  • Advanced Stick Skills: One-handed cradling, behind-the-back passes, shooting on the run, and draw controls
  • Modified Checking: Introduction to controlled stick checking with emphasis on proper technique and safety
  • Strategic Play: Learning offensive sets, defensive positioning, cutting, and transition strategies
  • Position Specialization: Players may begin to focus on specific positions based on their strengths and interests
  • Increased Competition: More competitive games with scores tracked and potential tournament participation
  • Physical Conditioning: Greater emphasis on fitness, footwork, and agility training
  • Leadership Development: Opportunities for captaincy and mentoring younger players

Developmental Goals

Middle school girls should demonstrate strong stick skills with both hands, understand complex offensive and defensive strategies, and be able to execute plays effectively. This division prepares players for high school lacrosse while continuing to emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
